Awhile back we posted that we’ve been ‘going green’ for a few years already, here’s the reminder:-

We like this Google review.

Thank you to Helen Barber-James for this great Google review that we were unaware of. We noticed it by chance yesterday.

“Dempsey’s Guest House provided us with a home from home. Accommodating three generations of our family (Gran, Mom and two teenage girls) for five days, we were warmly welcomed, comfortable and well cared for. The room was perfectly set up for elderly people, with flat walking surfaces, and handholds in the bathroom. We were able to cook meals for ourselves in the compact, well equipped kitchenette. Safe off-street parking in this quiet area added peace of mind, and we enjoyed the space of the large garden. There are ample shops in the neighbourhood, so no shortage of supermarkets to buy supplies. We are happy to recommend Dempsey’s Guest House, and will stay there again if we need to stay overnight in Port Elizabeth.”

The Tourism Coach is moving home to Port Elizabeth.

Tourism guru, Shaun Van Eck is heading home to Port Elizabeth. He is driven by a quest to bring a revolutionary focus to the local level of tourism. Last night we attended the launch of his book “The Tourism Coach” held at the GFI Art Gallery (previously Ron Belling Gallery) Covering marketing, service excellence and self-leadership, this is the first business book in South Africa written specifically for entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, from guesthouse owners and tour operators to food truck operators and rickshaw drivers. “The Tourism Coach” is a practical guide to making money from tourism.

Shaun says:
“I want to serve and inspire local tourism entrepreneurs and their teams, as well as the local tourism offices that serve them. My book is a passionate effort to communicate practical step-by-step actions that are easy to do and deliver results. Next, I would like to deliver inspiring and results-orientated talks in over fifty towns and cities and be part of creating a more engaged, connected and aligned local tourism level that works as a team to deliver authentic and engaging tourism experiences to the world. I love giving people hope and bringing the best out in them! Let’s work together and create a positive and irresistible local tourism revolution.”

It’s about service, service, service.

It’s about service, service, service.

We recently escorted guests of ours, an elderly couple, to the “TelePerformance UK Visa Application Centre” at Greenacres, Port Elizabeth. We were expecting ‘red tape’ and a lengthy wait, we were so wrong. We weren’t even at the threshold of the office when a staff member from within the office came to greet us outside the office, Angelo introduced himself in a confident and professional manner, he immediately put our guests at ease and showed them where to go and what to do inside the office. Our guests were anxious and nervous about having all the correct papers and Angelo assured them that all would be sorted out, all they needed to do was to relax and wait a little while. Angelo was just doing his job but to us he was going the extra mile with his customer service. He was professional, friendly and helpful, displaying a nurturing manner towards the elderly people. All staff were pleasant and helpful at Teleperformance but Angelo stood out. Angelo we commend you for your top service and superb attitude towards your clients.

Nelson Mandela Bay Soccer Stadium. Pristine.

Nelson Mandela Bay Soccer Stadium. Pristine.

Wonderful to be part of the tour of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium yesterday with PEMBBA members. We never tire of the beautiful structure and setting. Thank you to Access Management team and PEMBBA Port Elizabeth Metro Bed and Breakfast Association for organizing the tour for us.

The Pitch: The playing surface is made of natural grass that was grown off site, in the St Albans area. The areas surrounding the pitch are made of artificial turf. The field that was originally laid was a mixture of kikuyu grass and rye grass. For the 2010 FIFA World Cup though, the field was be made up completely of rye grass. The field was designed to be able to accommodate both football and rugby. The pitch is maintained by a group of 5 people who work day and night to ensure the quality of the playing surface.  A ‘pitch grow’ lighting system is used to ensure that all grass on the pitch grows properly. A unit with 61 000 watt bulbs is used to help certain parts of the pitch covered by shadow due to the stadium roof.

As I entered the dramatic corridor of this haven for my back massage, I couldn’t get the song “Shambala” out of my head!

“Shambala” is a song written by Daniel Moore and made famous by two almost simultaneous releases in 1973, the better-known but slightly later Three Dog Night version, which reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and a lesser-known version by B.W. Stevenson. The song is about the mythical kingdom of Shambhala, said to be hidden somewhere within or beyond the peaks of the Himalayas and mentioned in various ancient texts, including the Kalachakra Tantra and ancient texts of Tibetan Buddhism. The phrases “in the halls of Shambala” and “on the road to Shambala” tie for number of occurrences in the lyrics. The latter phrase perhaps alludes to the idea of Shambala not as a physical place but as a metaphor for the spiritual path one might follow. The lyrics refer to a situation where kindness and cooperation are universal, joy and good fortune abound, and psychological burdens are lifted.

Wash away my troubles, wash away my pain
With the rain in Shambala
Wash away my sorrow, wash away my shame
With the rain in Shambala

Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind
On the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky, everyone is so kind
On the road to Shambala

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
I can tell my sister by the flowers in her eyes
On the road to Shambala
I can tell my brother by the flowers in his eyes
On the road to Shambala

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
