Fairview Racecourse a ‘first’ with Polytrack!

Fairview Racecourse is proudly boasting a first: they are the first to install a Polytrack in South Africa! Recently we attended a Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism membership meeting at the newly upgraded Fairview Racecourse in Greenbushes, Port Elizabeth. Wow! what a pleasant surprise to learn about this attractive, top class and upmarket horse racing venue. We were most impressed. Other than their weekly race meetings on Fridays, Fairview Racecourse hosts charity events, corporate race days, the EC Derby in May and festival racing in October.

The NMMU Fashion and Textile Design Department will be hosting a fashion show at Fairview on Sunday 11 May 2014. Students will design garments specifically for this year’s show under the theme “Art At The Races” and they will share their own interpretations through their design. Each student will be allocated with two models and they can express their creativity from headgear to body painting and elegant garments. Promotional Manager at Fairview Race Course, Karin le Roux, added that the main purpose for the show was to introduce another element that has always been part of horse racing. The annual fashion show is in its second year and the event is regarded as one of PE’s most popular fashion shows linked to a horse racing event.
The feature race on the day will be the Recall East Cape Derby (Gr3) to be run over 2400m.
A teaser fashion show at the Media Launch for the race weekend will be taking place in Bravo Bar at the Boardwalk Casino on Thursday, 24 April 2014. Fairview will be hosting the Prawn Festival on the same day.”

Be there or be square!

What is Polytrack? it’s a mix of rubber, sand, fiber and wax atop a porous asphalt-like hard surface. It promises safer racing, better drainage and minimal maintenance. The surface is a mixture of silica sand, recycled synthetic fibers (carpet & spandex) and recycled rubber/pvc. In cold climates, the mixture may also include jelly cable (plastic insulation from copper phone wire). The entire mixture is coated with wax.It provides a level vertical drainage system which is key to providing consistency and giving the horse the confidence to perform to its best.

Benefits of Polytrack:-

Accurately manufactured by weight
No irrigation system required
Dust free
Ready to use immediately following installation
Excellent climatic tolerance
Cushioning effect of this wax coated surface reduces injury risks
Provides secure equine footing – hence improves the horse’s confidence and performance
Very good energy return with sound root structure

I would be attending the race day on 11 may 2013 and I am also bring my family along. We are a total of 9 persons. Do we have to book the restaurant or a box of our own . If so , what is the cost for a box. I checked the weather and it looks cold so I would need so be some where comfortable for the women folks. It is Mother”s day. Need to spoil them. Please advice since this is my first time to this course. Any other information will help thanks. Lenny
