The buzz at 154 Main Road, Walmer, Port Elizabeth.

The buzz at 154 Main Road, Walmer, Port Elizabeth.

Some more rearranging of the furniture in Walmer has brought with it a ‘buzz’. We’ve been watching the changing space at No. 154 Main Road, Walmer, barely 2kms from us Dempsey’s Guest House. If we remember correctly, it all started years ago with the opening of The Scrapbook Nook and then Execu Cut. Alongside them was Casa Rosa Florist and then up popped Pro Natural and quite soon thereafter Micoffee. ProNatural and Casa Rosa have moved over to the new wing and Mike and his Micoffee are now stationed up front near the road, a coffee ‘drive through’ we believe. Go Mike! The 2 Fat Butchers have left our immediate neighbourhood and are now trading next to the new Banneton Bakery and Cafe. And behind but not last, Cupboard Love has moved from their Richmond Hill premises. We popped in the other day to take some photos. We will wait awhile until ‘the dust has settled’ before we take some more photos and bring you some more news and information on the businesses in operation there.

Come to Cobblestone for comfort food.

Come to Cobblestone for comfort food.

This delightful breakfast and brunch, bistro, bakery and coffee shop, home of the decadent Magic Bar…is a mere block away from us at Dempsey’s in Walmer. Owner managed since December 2012 by Clarence, Lilian and Divan, this cheerful spot can boast about friendly, attentive service and reasonably priced, delicious comfort foods. Cobblestone Bistro and Bakery is famous for natural grained breads such as ciabatta, honey and mustard, peppadew and feta. Ask after the interesting chef’s daily specials such as yellowtail, oxtail and pepper crusted pork fillet.

We fancy the different e.g. :- a Portuguese Omelette, a Chicken and Nut Pizza, Portu-Greek Kebabs, a Bagel oozing with Campagnolo Salami, Camembert and Fig Preserve, or a Nibble Platter. Cobblestone offers a superb collection of goodies for the sweet tooth such as:- Magic and Benedict Bars, Chocolate, Butter or Almond Croissants, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Chocolate Caramel Bon Bons… a luscious lengthy list, go and see for yourself!

We’ve shared their Mmmmagic Bar before, take a peek:

Cobblestone takes bookings, ‘walk-ins’ are welcome, their venue is good for groups or parties, there is comfortable outdoor seating. Cobblestone Bakery is wheelchair friendly.

mmmmmm Magic Bar for the sweeeet tooth!

Two blocks away from us at Dempsey’s is Cobblestone Bakery,  home of the delicious Magic Bar… For the sweeeet tooth, this Magic Bar has a buttery biscuit crust, a generous layer of caramel, a mix of gorgeous nuts, chocolate pieces and roasted coconut. We think there is some honey in there too.

At Cobblestone they bake a variety of artisanal breads from stoneground flour – also a good selection of gluten-free breads. Their coffee is great too!
