A refreshing new bee experience awaits you in Port Elizabeth.

Anje Rautenbach is a local travel addict “Going Somewhere Slowly” and enjoys the world in slow motion. She’s in love with good coffee, obsessed with beautiful words and getting lost; she explores places off the beaten path. Here she shares her experience of a bee tour at the newly opened  Apiarist Farm Shoppe.

Dempsey’s Guest House wishes the Rautenbachs great success in their exciting new venture!

Guest review from: Angie and Rob Fromburg.

We arrived without warning and asked Kathy if she could help us out with toiletries as we had to stay over, unexpectedly due to a Doctor’s appointment! Kathy then produced a tray of all sorts of ‘goodies’ to see us through! Very helpful and most friendly. The room was perfect and there was everything available. Will definitely stay there again!

Welcome colour added to Walmer Boulevard.

Welcome colour added to Walmer Boulevard.

A dreary old municipal building on Walmer Boulevard was recently given new life. A fresh coat of paint and some creative input draws attention to a somewhat interestingly-shaped building…penguin included! It’s a pity we can’t provide a ‘before’ photograph which would demonstrate the transformation.

(Search on Google maps for a ‘before’ photo:  Shell-Traingle Service Station, 177 Walmer Blvd, South End. Building is just to the right of service station )

We love colour!

Smiles and roses on 6th Avenue Walmer.

Smiles and roses on 6th Avenue Walmer.

Always ready with a broad smile and a friendly wave, Wilson Mthalane’s spot for selling his beautiful roses is on the corner of 6th Avenue and Heugh Road in Walmer. He can be seen usually on Fridays and often during the week when he walks the intersection cheerfully interacting with motorists while selling his roses. He hails from Ladismith and enjoys his job which puts bread on the table for his family of six. Wilson is a ray of sunshine to many a moody motorist.

On a few occasions over the years bees have moved into our irrigation system at Dempsey’s Guest House, not without drama. The recent safe removal of them ended with the beekeeper offering to place a bee hive in our garden. We hope this will become their new home and working place and that the irrigation system might have a chance to work again once the drought has broken.

Adventurer Zakie completes her solo SA coastline walk.

We are rather late with this news but it’s still worth sharing. Adventurer Zakie Odendaal, who started her solo SA coastline journey on the 20th September 2016, ended it with aplomb at Ponte do Ouro, Mozambique on the 10th June 2017.  Her parents drove more then 1800km to congratulate her and to walk the last 6km with her. They shared a lovely brunch in Ponte do Ouro and that night their celebrations continued around a traditional South African braai. Congratulations Zakie on your incredible journey!

Zakie’s adventures continue, she has already completed day 2 of her 7 day journey across Swaziland with Keegan Longuiera They’re on a budget of R10-00 per day! We look forward to seeing their photographs and hearing their stories.
