Scones in the country at Lake Farm

The Lake Farm Coffee Shop and Craft Shop is open Saturdays and Sundays 10h00-12h30. Delicious, generous portions of cakes and scones are on offer, costing only R20-00 for a scone and  tea, a BARGAIN for a tasty treat in the country! Lake Farm is set in the rural Kragga Kamma area, 15 km from Port Elizabeth. The Centre offers a tranquil and picturesque environment that provides a permanent home for 90 mentally challenged adults who live and work together in harmonious co-operation. Lake Farm Centre opened in 1960 and celebrated it’s 50th anniversary in 2010.The Centre which was started as a “school” for mentally disabled children with boarding facilities, has been involved in the care and training of the intellectually disabled since 1959. In 1979 Lake Farm Centre Adult Care was founded as a residential facility with protective workshops. Here involvement in work-skills i.e. farming, bakery, hydroponics, pottery, spinning and weaving, home industries, gardening and building maintenance, is encouraged. “Fresh farm produce and many of the articles made by our residents in our workshops are on sale in our Craft Shop which, together with our Coffee Shop is open each Saturday and Sunday morning between the hours of 10a.m. and 12:30 p.m. These wares are of high quality and our residents are proud of the contribution that they make to the running of the Centre in this manner. However, despite our combined best efforts, the Centre is not self-supporting and, in order to maintain our standards and services,we are faced with the ongoing and increasingly difficult task of raising sufficient income. To this end we engage the assistance of the public in fundraising events throughout the year such as the annual Fun Run, Fête, Golf days, Street collections,etc. We are always most grateful for the support that we receive from our Sponsors for these types of events.” Lake Farm Centre is a registered non-profit organisation and public benefit organisation.
