Walmer gains “Tempo Musik” – musicians at your service.

January 20, 2017 //  by Kathy

Tempo Musik has moved back to Newton Park, as at July 2018, find them at 55 7th Avenue, Newton Park Tempo Musik” has recently moved premises from Cape Road, Newton Park to 24 Sixth Ave, Walmer. Not even one kilometre from us at Dempsey’s Guest House, Tempo Musik is yet another BIG PLUS for Walmer. Tempo Musik was founded by Neels Mattheus in March 1981. In 1984 his sons, Deon & Kevin returned to Port Elizabeth from Gauteng to help in the family business – the rest is history. Being musicians, wizards on the drums and bass, they are qualified to help you with any purchase. Be prepared for their top friendly service, razor sharp wit and fun attitude. Their store is jam-packed with musical instruments, second hand items too. Pop in to browse and to purchase your next dream musical instrument or sound equipment. The Mattheus brothers have a band called @Least and at the moment they are playing regularly at “The Pitch and Putter” at the bottom of Mount Road, PE. Kevin plays drums, Deon bass and guitar. Music is in their blood – Deon’s daughter Michelle, is a saxophonist of note, she rips the keyboards too, Kevin’s daughter Jo-Anne plays bass and his son Dillon plays the drums. Here’s a bit more about their Dad Neels:- Neels Mattheus was a South African Afrikaner traditional musician, one of South Africa’s best known traditional musicians of the Boeremusiek genre. His career spanned several decades, and included radio and television appearances, prizes and awards. He was known for his virtuoso concertina playing and combined the traditional genre of Boeremusiek with later genres, such as jazz, to produce a vibrant, modern sound while preserving the essence and beauty of Boeremusiek. A regular performer at festivals and dance halls throughout South Africa, Mattheus gained a reputation for affability and warmth. His hits, such as the ‘Groot Leeu Mazurka’, ‘Mooi Bly’ and ‘Gamtoos Opskud’, were enjoyed by South Africans of all ages. Info taken from Wikipedia.
